KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday approved amendments to the electoral law after they were endorsed by the Cabinet.
A statement from the Presidential Palace to Pajhwok Afghan News said that amendments, additions and omissions were made to some parts of the electoral law.
It said the changes to the law were approved by the cabinet and the president after consultative meetings with political parties, presidential candidates and civil society.
After approving the amendments, President Ghani said the draft amendment bill was based on general agreement of political parties, presidential candidates and civil society institutes about elections.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah praised the consensus achieved about amendments to the electoral law.
Second Vice President Sarwar Danish also talked about the amendments and said they talked for 20 hours with presidential candidates, political parties and civil society about the changes.
He said changes were brought to 39 clauses of the electoral law after agreed by all sides.
