QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A female Wolesi Jirga hopeful on Monday succumbed to the wounds she suffered in a traffic accident in northwestern Badghis province, an official said.

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): The new governor on Wednesday said the central government had ignored northwestern Badghis province with regard to reconstruction and development activities over the past 14 years.
Talking to Pajhwok Afghan News during an interview, Dr. Jamaluddin Ishaq said local officials had also failed to execute projects under an organised plan.
He said the public health sector was in a shambles, most of schools were without buildings and roads leading districts had not been blacktopped and some projects had been left incomplete.

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Wheat production in northwestern Badghis province has increased by 61 percent, compared with last year’s yields, an official said on Tuesday.
The total yield this year was 78,517 tonnes while the 2014 production worked out at 26,392 tonnes, Director of Agriculture, Irrigation and LivestockHafizullah Benish told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He linked the higher yield to timely rains, saying the production could meet the annual requirement of the province. Growers could also sell their wheat to other provinces, he said.

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): “Defensive groups” have been created in consultations with the police headquarters, public representatives and local residents to maintain security in Jawand and Qadis districts of northwestern Badghis province.
Though some military expert say the creation of such militias is not in the interest of the country, the Badghis police headquarters says they are beneficial for strengthening security and the groups are being monitored by the police.

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Some residents of northwestern Badghis province are dissatisfied with the performance of the local government and the provincial council, while others praise the council’s role in resolution of public problems.
Mohammad Usman, a resident of the Badghis capital Qala-i-Naw, says the provincial council is the only forum where people could take their complaints and share their problems with public representatives.
