KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States (US) has thanked the Afghan government for agreeing to postpone the presidential inauguration, a statement from the US State Department said on Tuesday.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Political affairs experts say President Ashraf Ghani’s oath taking event goes against the country’s laws and is ‘a hasty decision.’
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on February 18 announced President Ashraf Ghani as the winner of September 28 Presidential Election with 50.64 percent of votes.

KABUL (Pajhwok): National Islamic Front of Afghanistan (NIFA) leader Pir Hamid Gilani on Tuesday stressed solution to the dispute between the government leaders and warned political problems would confront the peace process with barriers.
Gilani, addressing a press conference here, said it was the time to take practical steps towards peace and keep the process away smooth.

KABUL (Pajhwok): In order to solve election differences, Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf on Monday met with President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.
In a statement, the Presidential Palace said President Ghani met Sayyaf, a jihadi leader, and ex-president Hamid Karzai at his office today afternoon.
On the other hand, Sayyaf and Karzai also met Dr. Abdullah, a statement from the CEO office said.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Monday said 65,000 to 80,000 votes would have been invalidated and the election results changed had a proper vote audit and recount been conducted.

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 85 percent of people are happy with results from the presidential election, finds an online survey conducted by Pajhwok Afghan News. 
Late on Tuesday, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced President Ashraf Ghani has won re-election by securing 50.64 percent of votes.
Ghani secured 923,592 votes (50.64 percent), Dr. Abdullah 720,841 (39.52 percent) and Gulbadin Hekmatyar 70,241 (3.85 percent).

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday barred election officials from traveling abroad.
In a decree, whose copy has been obtained by Pajhwok Afghan News, Abdullah banned chairpersons and members of both election panels from leaving the country.
The CEO ordered the Ministry of Interior to take the matter seriously, warning that any negligence in implementation of the decree would not be brooked.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The residents of some provinces have expressed joy over the announcement of the final presidential election result but in the meantime said they were worried over electoral disputes and crises.
Mohammad Haroon, the resident of Kandahar City, said the election process was full of disputes and turmoil that worried the public regarding their future and the existing situation in the country.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The electoral crisis deepened on Wednesday when three more presidential candidates including Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar rejected the final election result as unacceptable.
