Voting in Logarpolls off to peaceful start

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Mohammad Halim Fidai on Tuesday took office as the governor of central Logar province with pledges to ensure good governance and real service to the people.
Fidai was introduced to the people of Logar as the new governor by Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) deputy head Farid Mamozai at a ceremony in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.
Soon after his inauguration in late September, President Ashraf Ghani issued a decree that declared all governors as acting officials.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Some provincial council members on Tuesday claimed drug smugglers paid money to Taliban insurgents for creating insecurity in central Logar province.
The PC head, Hasibullah Stanikzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News insecurity enabled drug smugglers to easily transfer narcotics from one place to another and that was why they paid money to the Taliban.
He said the smugglers used to transfer drugs from eastern Nangarhar province into Charkh and Kharwar districts of Logar on their way to southern Ghazi province and then Iran.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The residents of eastern Nangarhar and Laghman provinces on Thursday demanded the government to bolster security on Kabul-Torkham Highway.
Latest spat of violence in which armed rebels killed three custom contractors and also abducted 13 passengers prompted the residents of the eastern zone to demand the authority to make travelling safe on the vital highway.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Officials in central Logar province on Sunday demanded reinforcements as hundreds of Pakistani and Chechen Taliban were battling with security forces to seize Azra district of the province. 
Abdul Wali Wakil, Logar provincial council member, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban controlled the main highways of the district which caused problems for residents.
