ABUL (Pajhwok): US Ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass on Wednesday welcomed finalisation of the election budget, saying the Trump administration would provide up to $29 million to support the required operations.
“Conduct of the elections will also be funding independently Afghan domestic observers’ efforts so people have confidence in the way the election is conducted and in the results,” he added.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Election oversight institutes on Tuesday criticized what they said lack of interest on the part of the government and the international community to hold fair and transparent presidential election in Afghanistan.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Protesting women candidates in capital Kabul on Saturday claimed police tortured and beat them and dismantled and tore apart their protest tents.
For the past eight days, a number of protesting women candidates have erected tents close to the Presidential Palace to protest fraud and rigging in last year’s Wolesi Jirga elections.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Procurement Commission (NPC) on Wednesday approved the purchase of around 18,000 biometric devices worth $16 million for the upcoming presidential polls.
The procurement contract for buying 17,865 biometric sets was approved during a NPC meeting chaired by President Ashraf Ghani in his office on Tuesday evening, said a statement from the president’s office.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Four unsuccessful female Wolesi Jirga candidates on Tuesday sewed their mouths in protest against fraud in the October parliamentary elections and warned of self-immolation if their demands were not addressed.
The Wolesi Jirga elections were held on October 20 and 21 nationwide except Ghazni and Kandahar provinces. The elections in Kandahar were held a week later.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Migration Watch Afghanistan (MWA) has warned that 3.5 million Afghan refugees could miss participation in the upcoming presidential election, asking the government to address the issue.

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents of southeastern Khost province say the period of the ongoing voter registration process should be extended in the province.
In a mark of protest, dozens of people gathered at the only voter registration center in Khost city, the provincial capital, and said probably thousands of people would be deprived of voting if the period of the registration process was not extended.
