SHEBERGHAN (PAN): A decline in wheat production this year has sent prices soaring in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Sunday.
This year’s wheat production in the province was nearly 90,000 tonnes, compared with 110,000 tonnes in 2012, an Agriculture Department official said.
Syed Massoud told Pajhwok Afghan News annual wheat consumption of the province was 122,000 tonnes, forcing the import of 32,000 tonnes.

What country has the most expensive election campaigns in the world? At a first glance the answer may be obvious; in the recent US elections over 2 billion dollars were spent, and combined with the other elections held at that time, the total spending is estimated to over 6 billion.

The people of Jawzjan consider insecurity and unemployment as their major problems. The province is located 570 kilometres north of the central capital Kabul and having 10 districts.
The number of its provincial council seats is nine with three of those reserved for women. The number of candidates for the provincial council is 74 and 14 of them are women.
Kidnapping for ransom, roadside landmines, killing of government employees, theft and robberies and tax collection by opponents of the government are disturbing lives of the people in the province.
