JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A powerful lawmaker in eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday rejected rumours that some parliamentarians had taken security affairs into their own hands.
The speculation heightened after some lawmakers from Nangarhar province, expressing their concern over the increasing Islamic State threat in the Shinwari zone, announced to join the frontline with the masses.

MP lends support to govt’s anti-Taliban push

JALALABAD(Pajhwok):At least five people,including Wolesi Jirga Member Eng.Abdul Ghafar, were wounded in an explosion in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Saturday, an official said.
Police Spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place at around 10:30am behind the Eidgah Masjid in the limits of 4th municipality district.
The mine which was planted in a stream went off when Lawmaker Eng. Ghafar convoy was passing through the area.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday asked religious scholars to help the government eliminate extremism and establish peace in the country.
Salim Khan Kunduzi was speaking at a seminar on religious scholars’ role in prevention of drugs and establishment of peace in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
“Atrocities and bloodshed by terrorists has brought about a bad name to Islam and such activities portray Islam, which is the religion of peace, as violent and a terrible way of life,” the governor noted.
