Hundreds march in support of runoff election

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Hundreds of people on Sunday staged a peaceful demonstration in western Ghor province chanting slogans in support of elections and against suicide attacks and the killing of innocent people.
The demonstrators, including civil society activists and residents, marched on a road leading to the Ferozkoh Square in the provincial capital, Chaghcharan.
They vowed to throng polling stations on June 14 the date for the runoff presidential election, saying nothing could stop them from exercising their right to enfranchise. They demanded the government ensure tight security on the voting day.
Gulam Rabani, a civil society activist, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We are gathered here to denounce suicide attacks and we will respond to such barbaric acts by casting our vote.”
In the larger interest of peace, democracy and a bright future, he said, the Afghans were committed to participating in the runoff election.
Mohammad Hanif Ahmadi, another demonstrator, said people were ready to exercise their right to vote on June 14 and that they were striving to encourage more and more people into casting their votes.
