MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday said all polling stations were opened in central Maidan Wardak province on Election Day.

IEC Director Noorullah Paigham told Pajhwok Afghan News none of his workers were faced with any problem during the day-long process.
All 160 centres and 463 polling stations were opened for voters without facing any security or technical problems, he added.
Maidan Wardak Governor Abdul Majeed Khogyani said strategy adopted by the of Afghan security forces and backed by tribal elders helped the process to be conducted with a peaceful noted. Tens of tribal elders, religious scholars and youth traveled to several districts of the province for public awareness drive for greater participation in the vote, he said. He lauded women participation in the national process. Provincial Police Chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Khalil Andrabi said security forces kept away militants from disrupting the process in some areas of the province.
Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan Local Police (ALP) and public order police were deployed throughout the province to ensure tight security, he added. Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said one person was arrested on charge of using fake voter cards.
Khalil had a large number of fake voter cards transferring them to Jalriz district and wanted to use them in favour of presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah. The driver of the detained man had escaped along with fake voter cards but police had started raids to nab him, he said.
