Wardak council appoints interim board

MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): The provincial council of central Maidan Wardak on Wednesday appointed an interim administration board following the continuous absence of some members, an official said.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Maidan Wardak provincial council had 15 members but only eight of them turn up regularly.

As a result of some members’ prolonged absence, eight of the public representatives on Tuesday held a meeting and appointed a temporary administrative board, he added.

Halima Askari had been appointed as head of council, Mirwais Amiri as deputy head and Sharifullah Hotak as secretary of the board, the spokesman said.

Mirwais Amiri told Pajhwok Afghan News their decision to choose the board was not final and it could be changed when other members ensured their presence.

Sharifullah Hotak said repeated complaints with regard to people’s problems had forced them to appoint the board to address the various issues.

The board, he said, would formally begin work and a fresh decision on appointing a permanent body would be taken when other members ensured their presence.

Noorullah Paigham, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) head, said the decision was not in accordance with rules but it had to be taken to address people’s problems.
