سيلۍ وردګ: د نظارت حق په ادارو کې د لاسوهنې په معنا نه دى

MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The Provincial Council (PC) member of central Maidan Wardak province Silai Wardak on Monday praised President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s decision to empower the provincial councils, which would help ensure good governance at local level.
Earlier, through a decree, President Ghani has granted provincial councils the right to oversee performance of local departments.
The decree, the source within the government told Pajhwok Afghan News, was issued late Saturday. The new powers granted to the provincial councils were different from those they enjoyed in the past.
He added the representative of provincial councils and officials of Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) had prepared a draft regarding powers of the provincial councils which would be sent to the Wolesi Jirga for approval.
In her exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Silai said that PC members could better serve masses when they had power to evaluate the performance of local departments.
She added assessment and evaluation of local departments’ performance did not mean interference in their affairs. PC members could advise local officials on issues of common interests, she added.
Silai, however, warned if PCs were deprived of their power then the members would not be in a position to address problems of people in efficient way.
