Ghani campaign team swings into action

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Presidential runner Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s election campaign office swung into amid security concerns in central Bamyan province on Sunday.
Ramazan Fida, the interim head of Ghani’s team, asked the government to maintain security of provincial election offices -- hours after two aides of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah were shot dead in Herat province.
The absence of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) office in Bamyan was another issue needing attention, Fida said, asking where they should go in case of pre-poll violence.
Deputy police chief, Col. Mohammad Ali Lakzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were coordinating with the Independent Election Commission security campaigners’ security.
Only eight of 188 polling sites in Bamyan were under mid-level threat and 12 others under low-level threat, he said. In case of need, they could ask for security reinforcements, Lakzai said.
With the first campaign office launching its activities in Bamyan, other parties could also contact police for security, the police officer concluded.
