HERAT CITY (PAN): A number of residents in western Herat province on Sunday expressed their concerns over the upcoming presidential election, pointed out the insecurity in most of the districts as a serious barrier to hold free and fair election.
Earlier, Mr. Fazil Ahmad Mahnawi, the chief of Independent Election Commission (IEC), strongly connected holding election to security condition of the country and he further reiterated that in case of maintaining security, the commission could hold fair and transparent election.
Meanwhile, some of experts in Herat believe that the election method in Afghanistan requires some fundamental changes. Besides, they reiterated that maintaining security and support of international organization could give hands to hold a legitimate election in the country.
Presidential election can take place in two years, whilst, the experts believe that the Afghan government must take such concerns of the citizens seriously and draw their attention toward actively participating in the upcoming election. PAJHWOK
